Glasses

Blurred vision compromises virtually every aspect of your life, often making it difficult or impossible to drive or read.

Glasses have been an effective, trusted means of restoring focus for over 700 years.

There are so many solutions...why glasses?

Today’s Glasses Are Better Than Ever

Glasses Are Affordable

Glasses have a much lower upfront cost than surgery. Unlike contacts, they require little or no ongoing expenses.

A Personal and Stylish Solution

There is a tremendous variety of frames to choose from. Go as plain or high-fashion as you want.

Simple and Easy to Use

With glasses, there is no need for cleansing solutions or fishing for the contact you dropped into the sink – again.

Glasses vs. LASIK

Conditions such as glaucoma can make refractive surgery too risky, and if you're under 18, you don't qualify. If you happen to be pregnant or breastfeeding, now is not the time for eye surgery.

Glasses vs. Contacts

Contacts require dedicated care in order to avoid developing infections. Some of us just don't love the idea of placing a lens directly onto the cornea every day. Glasses eliminate both issues. Glasses may also be a better choice if you suffer from persistent dry eyes or are prone to eye infections.

Glasses vs. Premium IOLs

Cataract patients require at least a monofocal IOL, but there are multifocal options that can minimize the need for glasses. If you are averse to the added expense and don't mind wearing glasses, you may be better off sticking to your specs.

Many people need glasses without even realizing it...

If you don’t have glasses by now, there’s a good chance you don’t think your vision is bad enough to need them. You might have found workarounds, like sitting at the front of the class or holding pill bottles and other products with small text farther away. But blurred vision can cause eye strain, headaches, nausea, and more. Driving at night can be difficult and dangerous. If you're struggling on a daily basis, glasses can help. When in doubt, consult a doctor.

It All Starts with an Exam

Glasses can be acquired in three basic steps:

Day of Procedure

Eye Exam

Your doctor will perform a series of tests to determine the right lens prescription for your needs.

Choose Your Frames

Many practices have their own in-house dispensary with a wide selection of frames.

Receive Your Glasses

It can take between three days and two weeks to receive your glasses, although there are some providers with faster turnaround times.

The Do's and Don'ts

Do:

  • Get a hard case for your glasses
  • Use both hands when removing or placing your glasses to avoid bending the frames and misaligning the lenses
  • Clean your lenses once a day with warm water and a drop of dish soap, drying them with a cotton or microfiber cloth

Don't:

  • Place your glasses in your pocket or purse without a case
  • Leave your glasses in a hot car
  • Leave your glasses on countertops or vanities where they can be splashed or sprayed with hair spray or cosmetics
  • Wipe dry lenses
  • Use paper products to wipe lenses
  • Use anything but water or liquids specifically made for lenses when cleaning your glasses

Tell me about how my vision will improve...

With an up-to-date glasses prescription, you can expect to have the focus necessary to drive, read, and carry out all other day-to-day functions. Your field of vision will be limited to your lenses, but sufficient for most tasks.
"It is a common misperception that wearing eyeglasses makes your eyes worse, to a point where you cannot go without the glasses. There is no permanent vision change caused by wearing glasses." Burt Dubow, OD

All It Takes Is One Appointment

Does the thought of touching your eyes twice a day make you squeamish? Have you been told that refractive surgery isn't right for you? Glasses may seem antiquated or cumbersome compared to contacts or LASIK, but let's face it: they work. They might also add some sharp, dignified flair to your look.

If you find yourself having to squint or do other strained, annoying workarounds just to focus, talk to your doctor today about how glasses can help you.
